While a national presidential election is raging on, the first ever online Mira Loma ASB election for the 2020-2021 school year has come to an end. Ballots were electronic, and voting occurred on Friday October 9th, 2020. In order to allow more students to vote, a second opportunity was provided on Friday October 16th. There are mixed student opinions regarding the election process.
Jay Wilson, a junior at Mira Loma High School states, “I felt I was informed by the individuals promoting their own campaigns, though I felt the voting process wasn’t as smooth, with a lot of kids not knowing that there was an election, where to vote, or when to vote”.
On the contrary, Joyce Ro, a sophomore says, “I thought it was pretty accessible, especially because it was advertised often on MTV and social media. On top of that, receiving an email to vote made it easy to vote and everything was clear on what to do”.
Student government is yet to confirm details concerning future elections. But for now, the following are the results of the election:
ASB President: Reem Saleem
ASB Vice President: Bella Castillo
ASB Secretary: Abby Pearson
ASB Treasurer: Anvita Chinthada
ASB Supreme Court: Michael Alofa-Aders, Elizabeth Hernandez, and Adrian Li
The specifics of the election’s procedures and candidates can be found here. Congratulations to all candidates regardless of the results, as well as everyone in the student body who made their voices count through their votes!
