Mira Loma had a full and successful fall sports season this year. Participating teams included girls volleyball, boys water polo, girls water polo, girls tennis, girls golf, football, girls flag football, boys cross country, and girls cross country.
Notably, for the first time in over a decade, our school’s football team was able to maintain a winning record. They ended the season with a record of 6 wins and 4 losses. Yaseen Saleh, a member of the school’s football team, expresses, “I feel like my fall season was really an experience I will never forget because of how well we did compared to the previous years. My favorite memory from this year was winning homecoming for the first time in more than a decade.”
The girls and boys cross country team won the GEL League Championship at Sierra College. Connor Martin, a proud member of the Mira Loma Boys Cross Country Team shares, “This fall season, our entire team rose to the challenge. We trained early in the morning and late in the night, fighting through the heat and cold, the rain and sun. We pushed through the hills, through the injuries, and came out on top. Both the girls and boys team won this year’s league championships, the girls keeping their streak from last year alive, and the boys snatching the title by one point. The race came down to the last man, with our 6th runner being the deciding factor in the end. This season was our last in the GEL league, and we hope to repeat our triumphs in the years to follow against new teams and new challenges.”
Many teams also qualified for playoffs. The girls volleyball team worked hard to earn a playoff spot, but their season ended with a loss against Nevada Union. Claire Contreras, a member of the girls volleyball team, was named the MVP out of everyone in the entire league!
The girls tennis team also was able to fight their way to the playoffs but lost against Placer. Reflecting on the season, singles player Ai-Vy Le remarks, “I think it went good. I feel like we tried our best and did as much as we could to have a good season. It was really fun, and we made it to playoffs.”
The boys water polo team also made it to playoffs, while the Mira Loma girls water polo team just barely missed the cut to qualify for playoffs. Sophia O’Brien, a member of the Girls Water Polo Team, comments, “The Girls’ Water Polo season went pretty good. We improved as a team and individually, as well as becoming closer as a group. My favorite game personally was our final game against Casa Roble, because while we did lose, it was much better than when we played against them the week before. This shows that we are still growing as a team and that we can improve quickly.”
In girls golf, Quinn Fielden-Joelson, a member of the team, made all League for Girls Golf and competed in Sections.
Currently, the winter sports season is well under way. Let’s cheer on Mira Loma’s boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, and wrestling teams!
