Hello Matadors!
I know it has been quite some time since we all last were together. There is a lot of uncertainty right now, a lot of confusion as to what will come next. I wish I could tell you all not to worry, that everything will return to normal soon. I cannot do that. However, I can tell you to never let go of hope. We can hope for healing in our very sick world, we can hope for the return of happiness into the hearts of those affected by Covid-19.
To the senior class, I understand the pain you feel, I feel it too. Four years of hard work, four years of excitement, and we may not get the opportunity to celebrate our greatness. Believe me when I say my heart is with you all. I will not say that there is no SAR, I will not say that there is no ball or graduation. These are things we will fight for, and ensure that in some way, we get. We all deserve this 2020 SAR season, we all deserve our spring sports. The senior class deserves a final SAR, a senior ball, a graduation. The juniors deserve their prom. The MYP Sophomores deserve to present the World’s Fair. The freshmen deserve their first SAR. These are all incredible milestones that every class deserves to have. I wish with all my heart that I could give that to you.
I will not present this as a goodbye, because the year is not over yet. If March 13th was our final day together, then allow us to reminisce! What do you remember doing at lunch? Did you say hello to your favorite teacher? Did you get the chance to talk to your favorite senior? Did you enjoy an intramural game? Did you have a good day? I hope I can see you all again, and get the opportunity to do the spirit stick a final time. I hope we can send off the senior class with love, joy, and pride. I hope the upperclassmen are allowed to meet there in the rose gardens downtown and bask in the beauty of their ball gowns. I hope we can be together again, as the class of 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. All we have is hope. What we can do now to ensure that we may return, is to do our part in social distancing.
Please, stay inside unless you must leave for essential purposes such as grocery shopping. Practice good hygiene, soap and warm water for 20 seconds! If you feel sick, isolate yourself from others. This is not the time to hang out with your friends, this is not the time to run the streets like I know we all love doing. For your safety, and the safety of those around you, please stay inside, and stay informed. Watch some more TikTok, participate in your zoom calls, and email your teachers. But most importantly, stay safe.
I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent you this school year. It means so much more to me than you could ever know. I have a lot of love for each and every one of you, I am grateful to know you. Until we meet again Mira Loma.
