Last Friday’s winter rally was a reminder of both the season and the quick passage of time, with the winter semester nearly behind us. The first half of the school year has included many highlights and memories for Mira Loma students.
At the beginning of the school year, the class of 2029 stepped onto Mira Loma’s campus. Freshman Sabrina Hu recalls, “Coming from Churchill, the transition into high school was surprisingly smooth. Seeing so many of the same classmates and friends made it feel like a natural next step.” Now, Hu and her classmates have almost completed their first semester of high school.
The beginning of the year also included Club Rush, an annual event in which students have the opportunity to learn about the many student organizations on campus and sign up to join. Gianna Sampath shares that Club Rush “gave me opportunities to find new clubs with my same interests and interact with people that could help me grow in those interests.”
In September, Mira Loma High also marked its sixty-fifth anniversary by hosting a celebration on campus. This included student performances and food trucks. Andrew Tran, a student at Mira Loma who was involved in the event, comments, “I thought the event was pretty welcoming and commemorating. There was a lot to enjoy and a lot of alumni from various generations to connect with. Me, I was personally involved in performing music and having fun with all the different activities at the event.”
As we moved into the fall season, homecoming activities also flourished on campus. This year’s homecoming theme was “A Haunted Homecoming.” Each class then selected the following themes: seniors chose “A Nightmare Before Christmas,” juniors chose “Coraline,” sophomores chose “Beetlejuice,” and freshmen chose “Corpse Bride.” Many students participated in flower parties and building homecoming floats. This year’s float winner was the class of 2026! The Mira Loma football team also added to the excitement of the season by winning the homecoming football game played on the home field.
As October rolled into November, the annual Día de los Muertos event took place on campus. Students had the chance to view many art displays and watch a variety of performances. Kai Hedglin, a student involved in the Dia de los Muertos festival, shares, “I enjoyed volunteering during Dia de los Muertos where I educated others on the tradition of the Catrinas. Throughout the day I got my face painted, participated in activities like finger paintings and watching the performances.”
These past few months, Mira Loma seniors have also been busy with applying to colleges or considering plans after high school graduation. Krishh Bansal, a senior at Mira Loma High School, shares, “College apps definitely took a lot of time. But it was worth it. I’m investing in my future.” After high school, he plans to study economics at a top-tier university.
Now, as the end of the semester looms, here are a few reminders. Finals schedule will begin on Wednesday, December 17 and continue through Friday, December 19. The schedule for final exams is as follows: Periods 1 and 2-December 17, Periods 3 and 4-December 18, and Periods 5 and 6-December 19. Also, seniors, if you have not already done so, please remember to order your cap and gowns. Additionally for those interested in participating in winter sports, please see the “athletics” section on the Mira Loma website to check for requirements for participation. Finally, winter break will take place from December 22, 2025 through January 5, 2026. Wishing everyone a safe and joyous winter break!
