With finals rapidly approaching, here are a few study tips that will help you effectively study for your finals:
- Make a Plan!
The first tip is to create a schedule for studying using a planner or calendar. Your schedule should include realistic goals that you want met by a certain time, such as completing your math homework from 4:00 to 5:00 PM. If you feel like there is too much to do, you should prioritize the classes that you struggle most with. For finals specifically, you should fill your schedule with reviewing material for each class. It is better to review a little material from every class every day than to designate specific days for specific classes as it will help keep the material fresh in your mind.
- Take Breaks!
Although you may feel that studying for several hours straight will help you better understand the material and be more efficient, taking breaks is just as important as the studying itself. For every 1 hour of studying, you should take a short 10-15 minute break and do something that you enjoy such as listening to music, taking a quick nap, or scrolling through social media. However, it is important to note that during your “focused” time, you should turn your phone off or keep it out of your reach to ensure that you will not be distracted.
- Rest Well!
On the days before your finals, you should get at least 8 hours of sleep, and on the morning of your finals, you should eat a filling breakfast to keep you fueled through your tests. Most of the time, it is better to sleep for a few extra hours than to study unless there is still a concept that you do not understand.
If there is still a concept that you do not understand or if you need a warm place to study and focus, this Monday 12/18 and Tuesday 12/19, many teachers are hosting Cocoa and Cramming in their rooms, with snacks and hot cocoa provided. On Monday, Cocoa and Cramming will last from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, and on Tuesday it will last from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. The teachers whose rooms are available are as follows:
I hope that this article helped you understand how you can better study for your finals! Good luck, Matadors!
