Homecoming: What You Need to Know

Homecoming season is officially underway, with class themes decided, flower-making parties for the floats planned, and much anticipation of the game itself lingering in the air. While the pandemic has affected the format and expectations of this annual tradition the last couple of years, this year’s festivities are now marked by a sense of greater normalcy. This year’s theme is “A Truly Villainous Homecoming.” Here is some key information to know about Homecoming activities:

Float & Class Themes

Freshmen: Maleficent

Sophomores: Dr. Facilier

Juniors: Jaws

Seniors: The Joker

Homecoming Royalty

The Homecoming royalty nomination process ended on September 29. Three pairs from each class have been selected for the final running. Students can vote for their favorite pair from their class when they purchase Homecoming Dance tickets. The last day to vote is October 12, and this year’s Homecoming royalty will be announced at the Homecoming rally or game.

The Football Game

Come cheer on our football team and join the festivities! Wear Mira Loma colors and show some Matador spirit! Friends and family are welcome. The game will take place on October 14, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The Junior Varsity game starts at 5:00 pm, and the Varsity game starts at 7:00 pm. It will be located in Abbott’s Field at El Camino High School, 4300 El Camino Ave, Sacramento.

Friday Rally Day Schedule

A Homecoming rally is scheduled for Friday, October 14. It will take place before lunch in the large gym. This means that school will follow a rally day schedule, which can be found here.

The Dance

The Homecoming Dance will take place on Saturday, October 15 from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Tickets are $25 with an ASB card and $30 without. The dance will be located at Mira Loma High School in the big gymnasium and it is open to all classes. Semi-formal dance attire is encouraged and masks are optional. Dance ticket sales started on 9/30 and must be pre-purchased from the finance office, as tickets will not be available at the door.

Each Mira Loma student is allowed to bring one guest, and a guest pass is required for this case. Dance guest forms can be picked up from Mrs. Jenny in the Vice-Principal’s office. The completed form must then be returned to Mrs. Jenny for her signature. This completed form will be required by the finance office before a guest ticket can be purchased.

The Flower Parties & Overnighter

Flower parties have been taking place on most days during lunch and sometimes after school. Look for flower party announcements at school or on Instagram.

The overnight float building party will take place on Thursday, October 13, starting at 3:30 pm and will be located in the Quad. Food trucks and refreshments will be available. Students who would like to attend will need to turn in a signed permission slip by October 10 before 4:00 pm. Permission slips can be picked up from Room C6 during lunch. Join your peers for some fun and to help your class build an amazing float!
